Chapter 01
What actually fails on a deck
Almost nothing that ends a deck's life happens on the surface. It happens at the connection back to the house, in an undersized joist that was never sized for the load it carries, or in rail and baluster spacing that missed code the first time and nobody caught it. The boards are the last thing to go, and by the time they look bad the structure underneath has usually been failing for a while.
The signs are quiet before they're obvious: a soft or bouncy feel underfoot near the house, a gap opening up where the deck meets the siding, rust streaks running down from a fastener, or a stain that keeps coming back in the same spot no matter how many times it's cleaned. Any one of those is worth a deck inspection before it's worth a quote for a new deck, and inspections are their own line of work here, separate from new construction.

The materials conversation comes first. We're a TrexPro certified builder and a certified installer for Trex, TimberTech and Azek composite decking, which carry 25 to 30 year manufacturer warranties and hold their color through an Austin summer without the yearly staining a wood deck needs. For homeowners who want real grain underfoot instead, we build in natural wood too: Western Red Cedar, Ipe, Tiger Wood and Mosorunduba, each with its own maintenance tradeoff we'll walk you through before you decide.
Framing ties into the house at a joint that gets flashed and fastened to actually shed water, not just look finished on install day, and joist spacing is set to the load the deck will carry rather than a generic spec. On any elevated deck, Trex RainEscape drainage goes in under the boards so the space underneath stays dry enough to use as a patio, storage or parking instead of wasted crawlspace.
Rail caps are cut and mitered on site rather than pulled from a kit, and stairs are set to the actual grade of your yard. City of Austin and HOA permitting is handled on our side of the project, so the paperwork is our job and not something that lands back on you halfway through the build.
On an elevated deck we can also install Trex RainEscape under-deck drainage products, which turns the space underneath from a place water drips through into a dry room you can actually use.
Chapter 03
What's covered once we've left, and how to keep it that way
Every build carries a 25 year warranty on Trex composite products, 30 years on TimberTech, Azek and the natural wood species we install, and a 5 year structural warranty on the framing itself regardless of what decking sits on top of it. We also carry $2 million in general liability insurance, so a build on your property isn't a risk you're taking on alone.
None of that ends the relationship once the crew packs up. Deck restoration, repairs and inspections stay available for as long as you own the deck, and a structure that's weathered badly after a few Texas summers doesn't automatically mean it needs replacing.
